Pot Size

A glossy, evergreen small tree with rich green leaves and highly fragrant white star flowers through the warmer months. A subtropical Queensland native that brings a lush, refined look to Brisbane gardens—ideal as a feature, soft screen/hedge, or large pot near entries and outdoor living areas.

Moderate growth, trims neatly to shape, and low–moderate water needs, once established.

Origin: Australian Far North QLD Native
Attracts: Native birds and pollinators

Plant Guide

What to use me for: I’m a versatile evergreen for soft screening and fragrant hedging. My dense, bushy habit suits boundary hedges, side gardens and large pots by paths or entertaining spaces.

I grow to: I’ll reach 3–4 metres tall and 2–3 metres wide in the ground, and I can be maintained smaller (2–3 m) with pruning. I stay more compact in containers.

Features: Glossy deep-green foliage; sweetly scented white flowers in warm months; responds well to clipping; wildlife-friendly. Excellent as a feature tree, soft screen/hedge, or large pot near entries and outdoor living areas.

Plant Care

Where to place me: Part sun to bright shade is ideal (morning sun/filtered light). I appreciate protection from harsh afternoon sun, dry winds and frost.

How far to space me: For a tight hedge, plant at 1.2 m centred. For a softer screen, 1.5–1.8 m.

Soil Conditions: Prefer moist, free-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid waterlogging or allowing root-ball to dry out. In heavier soils, improve with compost and plant slightly mounded. Mulch to keep roots cool.

Extra-Care: Water regularly to establish; then low–moderate water needs, with deeper soaks during extended heat. Tip-prune after flowering to keep a dense form. Feed in spring with a slow-release fertiliser for flowering natives/ornamentals. Protect from frost.
