Plant Guide

What to use me for: Feature tree, Mediterranean garden centrepiece, privacy screening, windbreak, avenue planting, topiary, large containers, or soft screening. My silvery-grey foliage and sculptural branching create stunning street appeal in modern and Mediterranean-style landscapes.

I grow to: 4-8m tall × 4-6m wide (smaller when container-grown or pruned).

Features: Drought-tolerant once established, silvery foliage that shimmers in light, fragrant white spring flowers, sculptural branching that becomes more characterful with age, excellent for coastal conditions. Perfect for Brisbane's subtropical climate.

Plant Care

Where to place me: Full sun with good airflow is ideal for me — I thrive in bright, open positions with good airflow. I love warm, dry climates and am perfect for coastal and Mediterranean-style gardens.

How far to space me: If planting as a grove or screen, give me 3–6 metres between trees. In smaller gardens or avenues, I can be pruned and spaced more closely for a structured look.

Soil Conditions: I prefer free-draining soil and will tolerate poor, sandy, or even slightly rocky ground. I dislike heavy or waterlogged soil, so ensure good drainage. Mulch well to keep my roots cool and retain soil moisture. Deep water to establish, then low water needs.

Extra-Care: I’m hardy and low-maintenance once established, with very low water needs. I’ll appreciate deep, occasional watering during extended dry or hot periods. A light annual prune after fruiting or flowering will keep my canopy tidy and encourage fresh growth. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in Spring, ideally one formulated for fruit trees or Mediterranean plants, to support healthy foliage and flowering.
