A cascading, silvery groundcover with fine, trailing form that spill beautifully over edges, pots and walls. In garden beds it forms a soft, shimmering carpet. Tough in heat and sun with low water needs once established—perfect for Brisbane’s warm climate.
Best for: edges, rockeries, retaining walls, hanging baskets and as a “spiller” in mixed pots.
Origin: North America (south-western USA & Mexico)
Attracts: Occasional pollinators
Plant Guide
Plant Guide
What to use me for: I’m a ground cover and pot spiller. Use me to soften hard edges, cascade from planters, or create a silver carpet between stepping stones (light foot traffic only).
I grow to: Around 5–10 cm high, trailing to 1–2 m in length.
Features: Fine, silver foliage, dense trailing habit, great contrast against greens and dark surfaces; heat and drought tolerant, once established.
Plant Care
Plant Care
Where to place me: Full sun to part sun. I colour best in high light; tolerate part shade but growth is looser.
How far to space me (ground cover): For solid cover: 30–45 cm centres. For lighter drape/soft fill: 45–60 cm. In pots/hanging baskets, allow trailing room.
Soil Conditions: Needs free-draining soil (sandy/loamy ideal). Avoid waterlogging. In heavy soil, mound and add chunky bark/perlite for drainage.
Extra-Care: Low water once established; water a little more in extreme heat. Avoid heavy traffic (not a lawn). Trim runners to shape. Feed lightly in spring with a slow-release fertiliser. Avoid SE QLD and Brisbane hot afternoon during summer. Provide shade in Brisbane afternoon sun to prevent scorch.
